Description
I suppose this should be matured for the little'uns. But it's not.
We were assigned to draw/paint a portrait from a photo that we would want to hang on our wall.
I really couldn't think of anything else.
Rob Kleiner, of Tub Ring, Super 8-Bit Brothers, etc etc fame.
Original photo
I could never get his mouth right. For two hours, at least, I drew and re-drew that mouth, and finally settled with this version, as it looked best out of the other shapeless blobs.
I also got carried away with the blood. I had to mix my own color, and let me tell you, mixing oil pastels is difficult. It involves lots of crushing with a hammer and paint thinner. The resulting color was chunky and didn't blend well because of the brown in it.
Overall, though, I'm proud of this. I got to mess with shading skin, and I discovered that I really like oil pastels and paint thinner.
Media: Oil Pastels and Paint Thinner if you didn't pick up on that
Time: I have no idea. At least 8 hours over the course of several days.
Date completed: January or February 2010
PS. As with anything, this looks better in person. Hopefully I'll be able to get a better photo or a better scanner.
